Live Earth got a traditional Aboriginal welcome in Australia and a high-tech virtual one in Japan, as the 24-hour global concert series to raise awareness about climate change kicked off Saturday.
Al Gore made appearances at both - as a hologram in Tokyo and via live video link with Sydney - urging rock fans to join the fight against global warming.
Madonna, Metallica, the Police and Kanye West are among the top billed of more than 150 acts due to appear in the nine-concert series.
Aboriginal tribal leaders with white-painted bodies and shaking eucalyptus fronds were the first to take the stage at the Australian event, singing and dancing a traditional welcome to crowd that grew quickly from a few hundred midmorning to several thousand by around lunchtime. (more)
The networks of NBC Universal will come together to air Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis an unprecedented global event on July 7. The networks of NBC Universal will broadcast nine legendary concerts from the seven continents, all raising awareness of the solutions to the global climate crisis.
Former LED ZEPPELIN star ROBERT PLANT has signed on to headline the Romanian leg of July’s (07) Live Earth supergig. The rocker will perform in Bucharest as part of the summer series of global concerts, which are being staged to highlight global warming. (source)

Tickets for LIVE EARTH CONCERT in NEW JERSEY go on sale at 10 a.m. EDT on Monday, April 16 and will be available at livenation.com/liveearth or by calling Ticketmaster at (212) 307-7171. All ticket information is available at LiveEarth.MSN.com. All proceeds will go to The Alliance for Climate Protection and other international NGOs.
Free Registration for tickets for Live Earth at Wembley will be available on Friday (April 13, 2007) and Live Earth ticket applicants are asked to register their details at http://media.livenation.co.uk/liveearth/register.asp
Registration opens from midday on Friday 13th April until Monday 16th April at midday. If your application is successful you will be notified how to buy your tickets on Weds 18 April.
All tickets for London’s concert will be priced at £55 each and will be limited to two per applicant.
